We have some pretty cool toys & we’ve been involved in many important projects over the past few decades – but we are only as good as our people.
Thankfully our people are the best…
Our team stretches across Greater Canterbury and the South Island. Although we cover so much territory, at our heart we are connected and united. We know how important it is to work as one (Mahi-Tahi), and we know how important each service is that we provide.

The journey of CORDE has been decades in the making. Over the last 30 years, many great companies have been created or acquired over time that now come under one umbrella.
Our extensive history in the construction and maintenance of key horizontal infrastructure has given us a strong presence and reputation in multiple sectors and locations throughout Canterbury and the South Island.
When we first created CORDE, we had three key brands that needed to be united under one name. Sicon Limited was the foundational maintenance provider for several district councils, including our own Selwyn District Council.
We purchased an amazing civil earthworks & construction company, ‘Blakely Construction’, with a great reputation for quality horizontal infrastructure construction throughout Canterbury. Our third offering was a specialist Three Waters Construction brand, providing international quality design & delivery.
These three divisions all excelled in their chosen areas of expertise, but internally it was confusing to many of our team. Through extensive culture surveys, branding workshops and the in-depth discovery research we undertook in early 2021, the team believed it was time to unite. We are now united as one team, one name – with multiple core competencies.
The first company acquisition is made with the purchase of Contracting South Canterbury Ltd, situated in Timaru.
Ferguson Brothers on the West Coast is purchased.
The Blakley Three Waters brand is formed.
SICON Ltd is an incorporated Company, Registered in Christchurch (CH/ 640084) in May 1994.
A further expansion in 2001 involved the purchase of Excell Corporation’s South Island operations at Ashburton, Rangiora and Nelson.
SICON combines with Blakely Construction.
A new brand emerges.
Sicon & Blakely Construction becomes CORDE.

At Corde we have three core values. Our aim is to be people who work well together, people you can always rely on – true guardians of our place and our local community.
The main pillar that represents the foundation of our company is trust. This company was built on a foundation of trust from it’s very inception. It’s at the heart of who we are.
Therefore the first of three values that represent CORDE is Whakawhirinaki – to be Trustworthy.
This translates for us as:
Trusted people you can rely on.
As you carry out your tasks at CORDE, we need you to be someone that others can rely on. The rest of the team will need to rely on you to help get the job done, meet a deadline or complete a task – with quality always front and centre of your thinking.
The team need to rely on you
to keep yourself and others safe.
Our industry is high-risk, we often work in remote locations, using heavy or complex machinery – we need to trust each other to stay safe.
We also want to continually be a company that our clients and our communities can rely on.
We believe you are someone we can trust. We look forward to earning your trust as you earn ours.
The next of three values that represent CORDE is Kaitiakitanga – this means Guardianship.
This value translates for us as –
Connected people who protect our place.
As a company, we see ourselves as guardians of our people and place. When you care for the land, you are also caring for it’s people. Because we have a focus on quality, our aim is to always pass on a positive legacy to our communities.
Our purpose talks about Trusted Connections that strengthen our communities. We live this everyday in the work we do.
We have won many environmental awards over the past few decades –
we won the top environmental award for two consecutive years. We are very proud of the way we incorporate sustainable methodology into each new project we are given.
As a new team member, we want you always to be mindful of how you can be a guardian of the land you work on and the community you live in.
